What started as a mobile fashion truck has blossomed into a vibrant storefront that embodies the spirit of women, community, and global togetherness. For its founder, Flourish Market is more than a retail store—it’s a mission. Every product sold creates a ripple of positive change, supporting women and communities around the globe. This ethos extends beyond the merchandise to the very design of the space, which was crafted by an all-female team to reflect the founder’s vision of empowerment, diversity, and inclusivity. Flourish Market is a dynamic blend of retail and community. The front of the store offers a kaleidoscope of bright colors, inspiring quotes, and globally sourced products. Each piece tells a story—of artisans from around the world, of resilience, and of hope. Designed to radiate positivity energy, the space feels like an invitation to step into a celebration of cultures and creativity. The back of the store reveals a women’s co-working and events space tailored toward women entrepreneurs and small businesses. It’s a place where women can work on projects, build their networks, or simply find a safe, supportive environment to connect with others. Accommodating up to 40 people at a time, the space needed to be flexible to support dozens of members who access it throughout the week. Flourish Market isn’t just a store; it’s a movement. It’s a testament to the power of design to create spaces where purpose meets beauty, and where community can come alive. Here, women support women, cultures are celebrated, and lives are transformed—all under one vibrant roof.

BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY KINDERCARE AT WFU CJMW ARCHITECTS + INTERIOR DESIGN | WINSTON SALEM, NC PREK-12 EDUCATION (HONORABLE MENTION) To address a critical shortage of high-quality childcare in the area, Wake Forest University (WFU) commissioned a new early education center that serves not only its faculty, staff, and students but also the greater Winston-Salem community. More than a facility, the center is a strategic investment in employee well-being and institutional recruitment and retention as well as a clear example of the University’s commitment to being a good community partner. By expanding access to reliable childcare, a proven factor in enabling women to reenter the workforce, WFU strengthens both its campus and the community it serves. The university first engaged the design team for a feasibility study and test fit analysis, followed by full design services for the new center. Located on the first floor of a 520,000 SF administrative building, the 12,644 SF space was transformed into a fully licensed, 5-star North Carolina quality-rated and NAEYC-accredited childcare facility. The center supports 120 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, with dedicated classrooms and indoor play areas grouped by age and developmental stage. A secure, clearly defined entry adjacent to the outdoor playground offers families an intuitive drop-off experience, visually separating the childcare center from the rest of the building and enhancing the sense of identity and arrival. The interior program includes: • Classrooms for Infants, Toddlers, Preschool, and Pre-K • Age-specific indoor play areas with distinct themes • A dedicated outdoor play yard • Administrative and reception areas • A staff break room • Support functions, including a mother’s room, storage, and restrooms The interior design team led all aspects of the project from space planning and circulation strategies to finish selection and the design of custom millwork, ensuring that every detail met rigorous safety and licensing standards while creating an environment that is engaging, functional, and welcoming to children, caregivers, and staff.

BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) ASANA PARTNERS | GRINELL WATER WORKS LOBBY BB+M ARCHITECTURE | CHARLOTTE, NC CORPORATE - SMALL (HONORABLE MENTION) Built in 1930 as the manufacturing headquarters for the Grinnell Company, the century-old Water Works building has long been a landmark of the FreeMoreWest neighborhood. Converted to office space in 2001, the building quickly became sought after by creative tenants due to its unique architectural features, including sawtooth skylights, large expanses of leaded windows, & exposed structure. While the tenant suites adapted over time to suit each new use, the lobby was neglected except for the occasional chair replacement. Instead of creating a memorable first impression, it was a forgettable zone that functioned merely as a pass-through to the restrooms. The slate floor, CMU walls, & glass clerestory created problematic acoustics, making private conversations or phone calls nearly impossible. While natural lighting is abundant in the space, the existing grey-tone finishes made the area feel dim even on the brightest days. The client’s goal in renovating the lobby was to breathe new life into the space by creating a vibrant, centralized gathering point for both tenants and guests. Preservation of the existing building structure and demising walls was imperative – not only to maintain the building’s historic character but also to comply with local Preservation Council guidelines, since portions of the interior are listed on the Historic Register.

BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) BEST IN SHOW, HEALTHCARE OUTPATIENT (WINNER) CAPE FEAR VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER | VERTICAL EXPANSION LITTLE DIVERSIFIED CONSULTING | FAYETTEVILLE, NC HEALTHCARE INPATIENT (HONORABLE MENTION) Cape Fear Valley Medical Center’s Vertical Expansion answers an urgent regional need for increased inpatient capacity with an innovative and highly efficient solution. The $110 million project adds 94 new beds atop the existing Valley Pavilion, creating two new patient floors and introducing dual rooftop helipads, an essential feature for trauma and emergency response in Fayetteville, NC. By building vertically instead of outward, the design team preserved valuable green space, minimized disruption, and dramatically reduced the project’s carbon footprint. Prefabricated, multi-trade racks and modular elements supported a more sustainable construction approach, reducing site waste and speeding up delivery while maintaining hospital operations. This patient-centered environment prioritizes natural light, acoustics, and safety. Patient rooms were reimagined with a 280% increase in window size, enhanced views, higher ceilings, and dedicated zones for family and staff. The universal room layout provides long-term flexibility and operational consistency. Interior spaces reflect a calming palette and intuitive wayfinding, reinforcing a healing atmosphere. The expansion also places caregiver well-being front and center with designated respite spaces and thoughtfully planned staff work zones, supporting care teams in a high-stress setting. The new helipad fire suppression system is the first of its kind in the U.S., replacing harmful foams with a safer alternative, underscoring the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Completed in November 2024, this expansion is not just a building; it’s a forward-thinking model of inpatient care and a catalyst for continual progress at Cape Fear Valley Health.
