When this confidential financial services client located in Charlotte decided to renovate 2 floors of an existing space to add new amenity & conference center spaces, setting two primary design goals. First, to foster elevated levels of interpersonal connection, bringing employees and guests together in a communal space to create a palpable sense of community. Second, to minimize that space’s environmental impact, aligning with the client’s sustainability culture of driving responsible resource use while creating comfortable, safe and healthy workplaces. The design team accomplished these goals, providing an undeniable competitive advantage for the client.

This communal space is a hospitality-inspired hub that transforms how the client can encourage an increased sense of engagement and attract and retain talent. Connection is baked into the design itself, most readily apparent though the linear light fixtures linking each corridor and experience zones together.

Local connections to Charlotte and local history are plentiful throughout the space, the color
palette is distinctly earthy, channeling the Piedmont region and Carolina Red Clay. Light woods, biophilic brand elements, and natural light infuse the space with a sense of energy, with a large stair to connect floors physically and visually. Leveraging natural materials, patterns, and phenomena, the design encourages the connection between occupants and nature, helping to support cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being. The overall layout respects the surrounding views of Charlotte and urban landscape to offer a calming implicit nod to the importance of employee wellness & connection back to their own community.
