The project challenge – and opportunity – was to design an office upfit for this industry-leading global Financial Client that would blend their typical space Design Guidelines into a space that was anything but “typical office”. The shell space of approximately 12,600 SF was positioned on the top floor of a high-rise building and was originally intended to be utilized for a restaurant/event space but was never upfit or occupied. It features a 40′ high clearance and a 35′ high glass curtainwall along the full length of the space overlooking Center City Charlotte.

The vision was to approach the design as a park- like experience with expansive vertical views of the surrounding city. The flexible free-address workstation areas are separated into neighborhoods divided up by a combination of built elements and furniture-based trellis and pod elements. The result is a design that celebrates the overall expanse and height of the space, while creating smaller areas with suspended elements that provide a sense of scale and an intimacy appropriate for the daily work activities
