Corporate Large – Honorable Mention

Boomtown

This new headquarters space for Boomtown, a fast-growing real estate software company, occupies 50,000 SF of an existing 80,000 SF warehouse with high-bay space and huge potential. Strategic interventions transformed the drab yellow brick building into a thriving contemporary workplace. To bring the high-bay interior proportions down to a human scale, the design team inserted a solid core holding small offices and meeting rooms, better defining the remaining space. Using a multi-pronged approach to bringing natural light into the deep spaces, the team inserted large areas of curtainwall into the north façade to provide diffuse light into the interior spaces.

Playing off the exposed structure to balance gritty and sleek, the team incorporated concrete and rough sawn timber walls as a backdrop for whimsical furnishings, bright colors, and imaginative custom art. Custom furniture made from reclaimed wood adds warmth and texture, and punches of controlled color keep the space feeling less “corporate.”

Judges Comments:

“The sunken lounge is by far the most compelling area with soaring windows to capture daylight.  Nice mix of materials and furnishings to enliven the space but not overpower it. The north light is beautiful and the pantry space with orange bar stools are fantastic.”
