Skyline Steel relocated their Rock Hill based office to the Lowenstein Building at the University Center at Knowledge Park. The five story building is one of the last remaining structures from the original textile plant dating back to 1929. The historical value of the building was a key driver for the overall design concept of Skyline Steel’s new work space. Preserving the rustic mill features while innovatively adapting the existing material and adding modern steel touches promote the company’s brand and workplace culture. The floorplan is comprised of private offices with glass fronts, an open office layout with height adjustable desks, and a variety of collaboration spaces including focus rooms, huddle spaces, and conference rooms. A large scale café space that carefully blends the rustic mill qualities with the sleek touch of metal is a destination space for employees. While the building’s inherent qualities provide much character to the space, the furniture selections take center stage as well. Comfort, range of posture, integrated technology, and a masculine undertone were traits that drove the final selection of furniture.
