A local, private university engaged our firm to design a student housing experience that exceeds expectations. Their goals were to provide their students with unique amenities, attract prospective students, and create an environment that fosters community and encourages growth. The university’s facilities team had separate, but equally important goals: to ensure all finishes and materials specified for the building were highly durable and low maintenance.

Student focus groups were formed to identify what amenities were valued and to inform the programming phase of the building’s design. All construction finish materials selected by our firm were vetted to ensure they were both attractive to the end user and appropriate for the application. Colorful finish materials were used to create a lively, youthful, and energetic environment. Furniture selections were based on the client’s desire to foster community and encourage growth.

Upon completion of the project, you’ll find study groups scattered throughout the corridors, roommates cooking together in the community kitchens, and teammates working out in the exercise facility. This state-of-the-art housing facility is one of the most visited buildings on campus tours. New, campus-wide finish standards have been put into place based on selections made for this building.
