Durban Development /  Harriet’s Hamburgers

Charlotte, NC

Gensler – Charlotte

Harriet’s Hamburger philosophy is to “just be good”, by being good at what you do and to be good to others. At Harriet’s it is not just about making a really good hamburger. It’s about creating a place where everyone feels truly welcomed and inspires acts of simple kindness to strive to put a little more good in the world.

The design firm teamed up with Plaid Penguin (Concept & Brand Agency / Owner) and Chef Brian Stockholm (Owner / Operator) to create the 675 SF food stall in the historic Optimist Hall Food Hall in Charlotte, NC. Prominently situated at the food hall entry, the layout is shaped for streamlined efficiency. The iconic curved soffit aimed to create a standalone stall within the Food Hall. The overall design is a modern interpretation on the quintessential diner. The mix of laminate countertop, aluminum trim details, and tin ceiling complement the bold brand colors and graphics. The menu, neon signage, black and white photos, and retro uniforms speak to a familiar nostalgia harking back to a simpler time.
At Harriet’s Hamburger the thought is the sharing food is one of the most basic acts of kindness. . . and that’s what they are all about. Happiness through hamburgers.
