Higher Education – Honorable Mention
UNC Kenan-Flagler Executive Business School
Charlotte, NC
Little Diversified Architectural Consulting
Located in the heart of Charlotte, the new UNC Kenan-Flagler Executive Business School reimagines higher education interiors to support the next generation of business leaders. This 22,400 SF adaptive reuse project transforms a commercial space into a contemporary learning environment tailored to the needs of executive MBA students. The design prioritizes flexibility, professionalism, and connectivity, blending refined materiality with thoughtful planning to meet the demands of hybrid learning, collaboration, and hospitality.
The project integrates a grand reception, classrooms, open meeting zones, huddle rooms, a breakroom, and a multipurpose pantry, each designed to foster connection and concentration. Natural wood finishes, curated local artwork, and integrated greenery reinforce biophilic principles, supporting wellness and productivity. High-performance acoustic treatments, adaptable furnishings, and state-of-the-art audiovisual technology allow the space to transition fluidly between lectures, group work, and individual study.
In collaboration with UNC Kenan-Flagler, the design team focused on a seamless blend of hospitality and academia. The result is a dynamic, human-centered learning environment that enhances UNC’s educational mission and delivers an engaging campus experience in Charlotte. With an emphasis on sustainability and regional identity, this project sets a new benchmark for urban satellite education environments in the Southeast.
