Broadstone Craft was born from a challenge: in a city experiencing rapid growth and a surge in multi-family development, how do you create an apartment community that doesn’t just blend in —but stands apart?
Charlotte is infused with a vibrant way of life, individual expression and aspirational energy. The client wanted to create an environment that would resonate with this notation while honoring the distinct character of the properties’ neighborhood. Optimist Park, where Craft is located, sits adjacent to North Davidson—affectionately known as NoDa—a district celebrated for its transformation from a historic mill town into a thriving hub of art, culture, and creativity. This proximity to NoDa, along with the site’s shared footprint with a beloved local brewery, offered a unique opportunity to infuse the project with authentic, place-based storytelling.
The design team embraced this challenge by crafting a concept that channels NoDa’s expressive spirit and Charlotte’s craft beer renaissance. Broadstone Craft is not just a residence—it’s a tribute to the artistry, individuality, and communal energy that define its surroundings. Every detail was curated to reflect the vibrancy of the community while introducing a fresh architectural language that feels both rooted and aspirational.
For the client, Craft exceeded expectations—not only in its physical distinctive aesthetic and thoughtful integration with the community, but in its reception. In 2024, Broadstone Craft was honored with the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association for Best New Property of the Year, a testament to its success in elevating the standard for multifamily design in Charlotte.
